Embarking on a rock climbing adventure guided by Joshua Tree Lizard guide, Ali, was an experience beyond compare. From the moment we met, it was evident that we were in the hands of a seasoned professional. Ali not only possesses an impressive repertoire of climbing skills but also an innate ability to impart knowledge and instill confidence in climbers of all levels. Their expertise was apparent as they meticulously assessed the terrain, ensuring our safety while pushing us to reach new heights, both literally and figuratively. Throughout the journey, Ali exuded passion for the sport, infusing each ascent with enthusiasm and encouragement. Their genuine love for rock climbing was infectious, making every challenge seem conquerable and every summit attainable. Moreover, Ali demonstrated a profound respect for nature and emphasized the importance of responsible climbing practices, leaving minimal impact on the environment. This conscientious approach not only enhanced the overall experience but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the breathtaking landscapes we encountered. Beyond the technical aspects, Ali fostered a sense of camaraderie among our group, creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where everyone felt empowered to push their limits and celebrate each other's achievements. In conclusion, my adventure with Joshua Tree Lizard and Ali was nothing short of exhilarating. Whether you're a novice seeking to conquer your first peak or a seasoned climber in search of new challenges, I wholeheartedly recommend Ali for an unforgettable rock climbing experience.Posted on Google![]()

Ali and Cory were so accommodating! I was planning a bachelor party for my best friend and they worked so quickly to help me plan on such short notice. They taught us everything we needed to know as a group of 10 that knew nothing about climbing. They made it fun and were great coaches throughout the day. 10/10 experience. We will be coming back for years to come!Posted on Google![]()

Ali was the best tour guide ever! Went here for a 10+ group bachelor party and he showed us the best time rock climbing and exploring Joshua tree! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area looking for something thrill seeking afternoon! Cory was a great tour guide/rock climbing instructor as well. Don’t look anywhere else for a guided Joshua tree trip these guys are the real deal! 10/10 experience!Posted on Google![]()

Our tour with Ali was AMAZING! My partner and I have never felt more comfortable with a guide (would highly recommend especially for any BIPOC or LGBT travelers who may be cautious about this sport). This tour was the highlight of our trip and ignited a new passion for climbing! Alis friendly and easy to get along with we genuinely felt like we were hanging out with a friend. And the climbing was magical! Ali picked perfect routes for our skill level, gave us so much encouragement and helpful notes (we really felt we improved over just a few hours)...He encouraged us to push ourselves and keep climbing further but was also supportive when we needed to take breaks.Posted on Google![]()

My boyfriend and I wanted to learn from an expert how to safely lead climb, build and clean anchors. Ali was so thorough and it’s very obvious that he’s an extremely knowledgeable climber. We learned all the safety and technical details on the ground and had a chance to practice before doing it on the route. We now feel like we have a solid beginner level knowledge of outdoor sport climbing and are ready to continue progressing with practice. Would 100% book again with Ali at Jtree Lizard when we are ready to learn more!Posted on Google![]()

About the Tour
Our family climbing tours are all about giving kids a fun experience with rock climbing while letting parents enjoy the adventure with them.
Every child is different. Some kids are ready to climb right away, while others need a little time to get comfortable with the height, the gear, and the rock. That’s completely normal. Our guides take things at a pace that works for your family.
We’ll choose climbing routes based on your children’s ages, experience, abilities, and how they’re feeling on the day. Beginners can learn the basics and get comfortable on the rock, while kids with more experience can try something a little more challenging. The climbs will be fun and challenging for parents and other participants, too.
Family-Friendly Climbing
Kids don’t all climb the same way, and that’s okay. We’ll adjust the routes and activities based on their age, experience, confidence, and comfort level.
- Plenty of Guide Attention
We plan the guide setup around the size of your family so your kids get the attention and help they need while they’re climbing.
- Climbing That Fits Your Kids
Kids don’t all climb the same way, and that’s okay. We’ll adjust the routes and activities based on their age, experience, confidence, and comfort level.
- Kid-Friendly Instruction
Our guides have experience working with children and know that climbing with kids can be very different from climbing with adults. We keep instructions simple, encouraging, and easy to follow.
- Beginner-Friendly
Never climbed before? No problem. Your guide will introduce the equipment and basic climbing techniques step by step, so kids can learn as they go.
- Proper Climbing Equipment
We provide the climbing equipment your family needs, including helmets, harnesses, ropes, belay equipment, climbing hardware, and other gear needed for the day’s climbing.

Guides Who Know Kids
Teaching kids to climb is a little different from teaching adults. Our guides have experience working with families and know how to keep kids engaged, encouraged, and having fun.
Years of Family Climbing Experience
We’ve spent years guiding families and first-time climbers in Joshua Tree. That means we’ve worked with all kinds of kids—from the ones who can’t wait to get on the rock to the ones who need a little extra time to warm up.
What to Expect, Step by Step
Here’s what your family can expect when you arrive.
Step 1
Meet Your Guide
Meet your guide, get settled, and get ready for your climbing adventure.
Step 2
Get to Know the Plan
Your guide will explain what you’ll be doing and give everyone a quick introduction to climbing and the equipment.
Step 3
Get Fitted for Gear
Everyone gets fitted with their climbing gear, including helmets and harnesses.
Step 4
Get Comfortable
Before getting into the climbing, kids have a chance to get familiar with the equipment, the rock, and how everything works.
Step 5
Start Climbing
Your guide will choose a good first route and help everyone get started. Kids can take their time and get comfortable as they go.
Step 6
Climb & Have Fun
As everyone gets more comfortable, you can try different climbs and activities based on the group’s energy and interest.
Step 7
Take a Break
Climbing can be tiring, especially for younger kids. Take a break, grab some water or a snack, and enjoy the Joshua Tree scenery.
Step 8
Try Another Climb
If everyone is still having fun and has plenty of energy, your guide can introduce another route or a new challenge.
Step 9
Wrap Up
Finish the day’s climbing, pack up the gear, and enjoy the rest of your time in Joshua Tree.
Why Choose Us
When you’re climbing with kids, having a guide who knows how to work with families can make the whole experience easier and more enjoyable.
Years of Experience
Our team has years of experience guiding rock climbing tours in Joshua Tree, including lots of time working with families and first-time climbers.
Family Climbing Experience
We’ve worked with kids of different ages, personalities, and experience levels, so we know that one approach doesn’t work for every child.
Certified Guides
Our climbing guides are professionally certified and experienced in climbing, guiding, and working with different levels of climbers.
Local Joshua Tree Knowledge
Our guides know the local climbing areas and can choose routes that fit your family and the conditions on the day.
A Relaxed Approach
We want kids to enjoy climbing, not feel pressured to perform. If they need a break, want to try something different, or need a little encouragement, we’ll adjust the day accordingly.
Tour Length
You can choose the amount of time that works best for your family. Younger kids may enjoy a shorter adventure, while older kids and families who really want to get into climbing may prefer a longer day.
4-Hour Tour
A great choice for younger kids, first-time climbers, or families looking for a fun half-day adventure. There’s enough time to learn the basics, climb several routes, take breaks, and enjoy the experience without making the day too long.
6-Hour Tour
A longer climbing adventure with more time to climb, try different routes, take breaks, and let kids get more comfortable on the rock.
8-Hour Tour
The full-day option for families who want to spend more time outside and get plenty of climbing in. It’s a good fit for families with older or more active kids who are comfortable spending most of the day outdoors.
Just keep in mind that a full day of climbing in Joshua Tree can be tiring, especially on warm or sunny days.
